The President of the Supreme Judicial Council attends the International Women’s Day and the International Day of Women Judges ceremony

The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zaidan, attended today, Saturday, March 9, 2024, the ceremony marking International Women’s Day and the International Day of Women Judges, organized by the Iraqi Women Judges Association at the Hammurabi Hall in the building of the Presidency of the Rusafa Court of Appeal. The event was attended by the Presidents of the Rusafa and Karkh Courts of Appeal, Judge Imad Al-Jabri and Judge Khaled Al-Mashhadani, the President and members of the Board of Directors of the Iraqi Women Judges Association, the President of the Bar Association Ms. Ahlam Al-Lami, as well as a number of retired and active women judges.

The President of the Council extended his congratulations to Iraqi women in general and women judges in particular on this occasion. In his speech, he stated: “We renew our commitment to continue working according to the strategic plan we have followed for years to develop the role of women judges, whether by increasing their numbers or by assigning them to advanced judicial positions in accordance with legal entitlement.”

He added: “We firmly believe that empowering women judges enables us to ensure better delivery of justice and to guarantee that women and all members of society enjoy fairness and equality before the law, which ultimately serves the public interest. We cannot achieve sustainable development without the participation of women on an equal footing with men at all levels of decision-making.”
