The Iraqi Women Judges Association held today, Tuesday, December 9, 2025, a ceremony on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, at the Ramada Hotel Hall in Nineveh, in cooperation with the Presidency of the Nineveh Court of Appeal and Basma Group Company.
The President of the Iraqi Women Judges Association, Judge Taghreed Abdul Majeed, stated that “this ceremony comes ضمن the ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ campaign, which is an annual global initiative that begins on November 25, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and continues until December 10, which coincides with Human Rights Day.”
She added that “the aim of this campaign is to raise community awareness of the various forms of violence against women and girls, support the efforts of governments and civil society organizations to combat such violence, encourage the enactment and implementation of laws that protect women, and create space for public dialogue to break the silence surrounding domestic violence, harassment, discrimination, and other violations.”
The ceremony was attended by the President of the Nineveh Court of Appeal, Judge Raed Hameed, the Vice President of the Court of Appeal, Judge Ahmed Al-Huraithi, a number of judges from various Courts of Appeal presidencies and the Kurdistan Region, the Minister of Migration and Displacement, Member of Parliament Ms. Sumaya Al-Khabouri, the Governor of Nineveh and members of the Provincial Council, the President of the Bar Association, the President of the Northern Technical University, the President of Al-Hamdaniya University, the President of the Mosul Chamber of Commerce, the Director of Basma Group Company, the President of the Iraqi Businesswomen Council, as well as a number of academics and media professionals.
